Senior Interior Designer

We're seeking a talented senior interior designer with at least ten years of experience in design practice. We value original thinkers who excel in generating fresh ideas, have a passion for creation, and are adept at executing high-level design concepts. Candidates should demonstrate a strong grasp of building construction and a proven track record of successfully delivering projects.

They should be eager to mentor, motivate, and contribute to our studio culture.
In this role, you'll work closely with the Principal designers, leading major accounts across Canada. You'll manage client relationships, oversee project deliverables, and provide leadership to Team Leaders and Project Designers. You'll play a key role in our studio's growth by actively participating in project planning, organization, and monitoring from contract initiation to client occupancy.

What You Bring to the Table
Minimum of 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
Degree or diploma in Interior Design or Architecture.
Pursuing or possessing professional designations such as NCIDQ, LEED, or WELL is an asset.
Knowledge of the Ontario/National Building Code and Ontario Fire Code.
Familiarity with Zoning by-laws research and application.
Understanding of municipal approval processes for planning and building.
Strong grasp of building science, construction methods, and detailing.
Experience with sustainable building materials and practices.
Proficiency in site planning and layout design.
Expertise in conceptual design, technical knowledge, furniture systems, and construction administration.
Proven track record managing interior design projects from inception to completion.
Demonstrated design excellence and leadership skills.
Familiarity with construction methodologies, building assemblies, materials applications, and interpreting manufacturers' requirements.
Ability to interpret and coordinate work across consultant disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical).
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong design, visual communication, and presentation skills.
Critical thinking, effective problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Capability to work efficiently and accurately both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Aptitude for mentoring and training intermediate and junior staff.
Strong organizational skills, including information management, task scheduling, and documentation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional demeanour and ability to interact effectively with clients.
Positive mindset and attitude towards work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the interior design aspects of multiple concurrent projects, ensuring timely delivery.
Uphold a high standard of design thinking and execution.
Lead and coordinate external consultants effectively.
Allocate project resources, manage team schedules, and meet deadlines for deliverables.
Maintain quality design production, including data gathering, space planning, and construction drawing tasks.
Collaborate with clients during strategic planning, client programming, and needs analysis phases.
Conduct quality control for all project presentation outputs and documentation.
Participate in selecting FF&E color palettes, material presentations, and generate specifications.
Collaborate closely with consultants on procurement, coordination, and management.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of individual roles and responsibilities on construction sites.
Work with Project Managers and Coordinators to ensure projects remain on schedule, including phased projects.
Manage project budgets and fees effectively.
Identify potential areas of risk and proactively resolve issues.
Continuously enhance the quality of our work, our delivery methods, and our processes.
Delegate tasks, provide leadership, and mentor team members.
Facilitate training and onboarding of new members of staff and the ongoing development of junior/ intermediate designers through supportive mentorship.
Establish trusting relationships with clients through successful management of expectations and requests, consistent communication, and captivating deliverables and presentations.
Engage in business development activities, including participation in project pitches when required.
Demonstrate expertise in material selection and appropriateness of products and finishes for intended use.
Stay updated on industry changes, trends, and advancements, and pursue continuing education relevant to industry requirements.
Actively contribute to team building and recruitment efforts through social and proactive methods.
General Requirement
Travel may be required, must have a valid driver’s license.
